Nylon PA12 — SLS 3D printing

SLS Available Express available

Production nylon, no supports — complexity comes free.

Nylon PA12 3D printing material

Selective laser sintering builds PA12 with no support structures, so interlocking and internal geometry print freely. Parts are tough, chemically resistant and near-isotropic, with a fine matte surface. Naturally white, they are commonly dyed black.

What Nylon PA12 is used for

SLS nylon PA12 is the industry standard for functional prototypes and short-run production: snap-fits, living hinges, ducts, brackets and enclosures that need to survive real handling and assembly.

Strengths

  • No support structures — internal and interlocking geometry prints freely
  • Tough, near-isotropic, production-grade mechanicals
  • Good chemical resistance to oils and fuels
  • Economical in nested batches

Know the limits

  • Fine matte, slightly grainy surface off the machine
  • Naturally white — colour means dyeing
  • Slightly porous until sealed

Maximum build size

440 × 440 × 450 mm

Surface finish & colours

Fine matte, slightly grainy white off the machine; bead-blasts smooth and dyes black evenly.

Natural white as-printed; dyed black or other colours via dye.

Finishing & post-processing for Nylon PA12

Parts printed in Nylon PA12 in SLS can be finished a number of ways at KAD3D, from a clean functional surface to a fully painted, display-ready result. The treatments below are the ones we most often apply to this material.

Dyeing
The part is bath-dyed to a uniform through-colour, most effective on light or natural material and excellent for consistent black finishes.
Bead Blast
Fine media is blasted across the surface for an even, matte, uniform texture that removes powder and tooling marks.
Chemical Smoothing
A chemical process melts the surface smooth for a sealed, injection-moulded-like finish that also improves water resistance.
Sealing
A clear sealer closes surface porosity so the part resists moisture and is easier to clean — important on powder and colour parts.

What this material supports

✓ Paintable ✓ Threaded inserts
  • Paint & custom colour: Nylon PA12 primes and paints well, so parts can be matched to any brand colour, gloss level or metallic look.
  • Threaded inserts: heat-set or press-fit brass inserts can be installed for durable, re-usable metal threads for fasteners.

Most popular finish: Bead-blast and dye black; seal or infiltrate for liquid-contact parts.

Reference #3DBenchy — like-for-like pricing

To make material costs easy to compare, KAD3D prints the same standard model — the #3DBenchy — in every material. The price shown is what that identical benchmark part costs in Nylon PA12, so you can weigh materials against each other on a genuine like-for-like basis before uploading your own file.

Where it fits

End-use housings, ducting, drone parts, and low-volume production runs.

Commonly chosen by Melbourne and Brisbane engineering teams for low-volume end-use housings and ducting where complex geometry rules out machining and tooling is not justified.

Comparable to injection-moulded nylon for low volumes without tooling.
